Ben has always been the "hunter-gatherer" type and I haven't ever had any problems with that. He likes hunting and fishing more for the "free food" aspect of it than the sport, and I'm sure most of you know that Ben is always scheming and loves to get anything for free. Unfortunately, all of these factors collided yesterday at the dinner table....
Ben saw an ad in the classifieds of the newspaper for some free chickens. He called the man that owned them and the man said that he just didn't want to kill anymore of them himself and ended up with more than he needed. I agreed to let Ben get them because I don't know if any of you have noticed, but the price of chicken has sky-rocketed recently. Ben agreed that he would get six chickens from the man and take care of the whole killing thing himself.
But you give an inch and they take a mile...
Before I knew it Ben was telling me about all of the baby chickens he was going to bring home to me too, with the assurance of eggs within a couple of months. I can't believe I agreed to it. Where are we going to keep baby chickens for the rest of the winter? Apparently, we will be keeping them inside until it warms up and Ben can build a coop or something....
And although Ben claims that he is always wanted chickens, he didn't seem serious about it until our trip to Florida this last year.... Thanks a lot Grandma and Grandpa...
Just kidding! I don't mind too much. Of course, we've only had the babies inside for about 15 minutes...
